I chose
the reading teaching
Online in online communication teaching and learning,
Even thought the three reading were too substantial in
my field. I am into the teaching online. Firstly, we already know that teaching
and learning processes has changed a lot. Students learn in a different rhythms
and with different interests. One of those interest is tech. Tech cover all
learners time and daily activities and to extrapolate this to the learning environment
is a good choice to encourage them and make lessons more significant. One of
the most important arguments in the reading has to do with that shift of
paradigm in teacher and learners roles in the educational system. That is one
of the most difficult things, to convince teachers. Some of them do not care
about so they continue doing the same thing inside the classroom. Teacher are
called to leave traditional roles and be more as guides, transformative,
researchers rather than only transmit knowledge. Another important issue is
that nowadays teachers must act as those explores of new media to serve as
models for our learners in order to transform our practices and give the
learner the role of becoming more responsible , creative agents in the learning
process. It is clear that teacher conserve that role as the only owner of
knowledge and forget about those incredible capacities that our leaners have
and we as teachers underestimate that normally happens in our context where
students only sit an get information rather that the teacher facilities the
learning process being facilitator, adviser, counselor, assessor, manager of
learning events and so on. Secondly, we can see how tech has been dispersing
around the world. Most of teachers fail trying to incorporate this to his-her
practice maybe because the lack of knowledge even if they have are fancy with
the idea. Others has the expertise on technical and software but they forget
about making that correlation ship between face to face and online learning,
they forget the student´s context which makes impossible to get meaningful
lessons. So skills as to identify the significant differences and similarities between face
to face and online learning and teaching contexts and to identify strategies
and techniques to facilitate online learning and help students exploit the advantages
in relation to both independent and collaborative learning’(Bennett and Marsh,
2002: 16). Another skill has to do with that assistance role which implies
teacher as a guide while learners make connections between new knowledge and previous
knowledge and use language as a tool for learning and create new knowledge
according to his or her necessities and interest. Online teaching offers
something too important as cooperative work, which is totally different to
collaboration work. The first one has to do with the divisions of labors among
the integrants as an activity as a whole. Where every person is in charge of
any portion of the problem. While
collaboration may be seen as the mutual engagement of participants in a
coordinated effort to solve anything together. Most of this, call and cmc has a
special contribution, where you have the chance to choose from a variety of
electronic tools that you will select according to the purpose of the lesson
and the population you have. From this sense, it is clear that CMC offers the
chance to the learner to interact and give the opportunities to exchange data,
discuss interest topics, resolving construct problems together. The best way to
foster collaboration, supporting, empowering etc. according to this, our main
source of information is our setting, our classroom where every day something
new happen, new ideas emerge to solve any circumstance that is why we as
teachers must be reflective teachers and see research as our main tool to
change our practice and become our practices meaningful. Maybe in our context
it is not too common to see teacher exploring those new issues sometimes teachers
only omit them and continue. Be transformative teachers has to with making
connections between theory and practice and see how this theory is useful to my
context. Reflective practice brings together theoretical knowledge and
experience (Schön, 1983). Cmc also can give us a hand to reflect not only with
myself but also with some colleges in and out the country. Cmc facilitates that
exchange Research suggests that it is important for institutions to support and
recognize reflective practice by, for example, providing tutors with mentors or
reflective colleagues and giving them space where they can share their
experience and find peer support. Sometimes to do this in our context is harder
due to the lack of knowledge of the principles and because the government
policies which only addresses to protocols and results without any support. So do
that has to do first with the policy makers, principals without forgetting the
teacher encouraging to do research and publish in index magazines.

Hi César, as you mentioned technology is not that familiar to teachers. Especially in developing countries which the access is limited due to the lack of resources and infrastructure. There are also teachers who are reluctant to implement digital technologies because of the beliefs systems. In addition, the laco of training and experience with educational software is an important reason. Finally, I agree with the fact that reflective teaching is key when using tech in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteHello Cesa, I see we selected the same reading and we have some similarities but also differences. But I totally agreed that many teachers in Colombia have paradigms and are resistant to the changes due to many reasons such as the lack of training and resources. Although, there are differences between a face-to-face class and an online environment, teachers can take advantage of their experience and create as you mentioned strategies and techniques to engage students' in their language learning process. Undoubtedly, this CMCM seminar will give us the tools to better integrate technology in our classrooms. Lastly, I would like to emphsize that our students are native digitals among other characteristics they have; and, we, teachers, need to face the challenge of teaching in a meanigful way for them.
ReplyDeleteHello everyone, I would say that one of the most relevant issues to struggle against in our teaching context, is the fact of having teachers going against the digital technologies. They are reluctant to the techs, some of them do it just because they are afraid of going into something new, some of them are perhaps exhausted of being innovating with new tools and feel they are done to go into new ways of teaching and teaching tools, but one of the most important is the lack of administratives to educate their teachers into new and innovative tech tools. An online teaching can be a good way to teach our students to feel autonomous to go on their own rhythm of learning and to foster in them to get their own ways to learn the language.
ReplyDeleteCesar and you all, it seems most of us agree that the teacher factor weighs heavily in the possibility of integrating digital technologies in language classes. Lack of knowledge, interest, motivation or simply trying to stay in a zone of confort takes teachers to avoid developing knowledge on how to use digital technologies. It is a personal enterprise to do it. As César mentions this implies changing teachers roles and perhaps we are content holding the power and all attention in our classes. Good discussion everyone.
